Recipe for a Great Party: Cake and Kisses A Perfect Mix!
Start with one part of an MC from the band Rosetta Stoned. Add a pinch of Adams Morgan. Stir in the Asylum Bar & Lounge and then bring to a boil. Slowly add beer and tequila and let simmer all night with the best hip hop DC has to offer and BANG! You have Cake and Kisses – one of the hottest hip-hop dance parties in the district.
The brainchild of Rosetta Stoned MCs Chris Carr and Tyrone Norris, Cake and Kisses has been rocking since August 2007. Every first Thursday of the month, Cake and Kisses supplies its hungry fans with baked goods and fresh DC hip hop. The Five One Band keeps every party going as the official house band with various singers and instrumentalists performing a series of 15-minute sets throughout the evening. The event used to feature more hip-hop, spoken word, and alternative artists, but has since transformed into its current incarnation with more music and shorter sets, complete with – you guessed it – cake and Hershey’s Kisses.
DistrictofSound.com attended the March party, which featured DC natives Math Panda and The Food Chain Collective. Both bands offered attention grabbing performances with rhymes that showcased their writing abilities and rhythms that reinforced their musical proficiency. The key to Cake and Kisses’ growing success and assured longevity is its ability to cater to anyone and everyone’s different musical tastes and styles without compromising on its quality and individuality.
