A Lasting Storm
Everyone has problems – regrets they must overcome, fears that will not rest, and addictions they cannot escape. For DC artist Justin Jones and the revolving cast of musicians who make up The Driving Rain, those problems are not burdens to be conquered, but rather stories to be shared. Framed by Jones’ truly unique voice and styling on the guitar, coupled with The Driving Rain’s impressive instrumentals, the band successfully blends together country, folk and pop. I caught the first of their two back-to-back performances on April 17th at the Rock and Roll Hotel, during which the band showcased a selection of songs from their latest album “….and i am the song of the drunkards”, as well as pieces from earlier recordings. By the end of the show, Jones had reaffirmed himself as a talented storyteller, weaving his triumphs and sorrows into a compelling soundtrack rooted in human connections.
Twice the Talent: A Review of Exit Clov
Even your average self-respecting garage band will tell you, one of the keys to musical success is blending well musically with your bandmates. To that end, who else could you possibly blend better with than a beloved sibling? I know what you’re thinking – tell that to the Gallagher brothers in Oasis. My rebuttal? Exit Clov.

Center Stage with The B-Film Extras
The $64,000 question: Why are some bands destined to sign record deals, cultivate groupies and make an obscene amount of money, while others never quite “make it” and are left with nothing more to show for their blood, sweat and tears than a MySpace band page? There may never be a true answer to this question, but I do know that it takes talent and a heck of a lot of good self-promotion to start. The B-Film Extras performed on April 11 at the Rock and Roll Hotel and, like many, are looking to be a band that succeeds. Gauging by the caliber of their performance that night and the audience response to their music, it is clear that this young band from DC may be well on its way.

My Poor Dancing Shoes!!!
Dance and rock music have always had an interesting relationship and when done correctly produces great bands like TV on the Radio and The Rapture. When thinking of bands in this category the New York scene has always come to mind, that is until I caught Ra Ra Rasputin at the Rock and Roll Hotel.
