We are exited to announce that District of Sound (DoS) is DC’s “Best Local Blog” according to readers of The Washington Post Express! The “Best of 2009″ online contest was conducted last month and results were announced on November 6th. Check out the Express to see the exclusive interview with DoS and special photos of the staff taken at Som Records by photographer Lawrence Luk.

This award also comes at a very special time as DoS celebrates its first birthday this November. What a year it has been… we’ve covered more than 50 local bands, thrown a few shows, and can’t wait to do it all again this year with you!

To celebrate this tremendous honor, our first birthday, and of course to thank our readers we invite you to celebrate with DoS at Solly’s on Thursday, November 12 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The party has only just begun.

Q&A with Tom McBride and the Whig Party

Take a listen to Tom McBride and the Whig Party and you’ll find a band that builds on a mix of country and rock with modern sensibilities. Their songs are rooted in solid instrumentation, steady rhythms and easy going choruses. This self-proclaimed five-piece rock, Americana/alt-soul band from Washington, DC, is keeping busy this summer with the release of their new album “Like A Lion” and local shows at Iota and Nats Stadium.

Q&A with Loose Lips

Loose Lips is a self proclaimed “eclectic indie rock band whose melodic sound incorporates elements of post punk, new wave, garage rock and Nintendo.” That pretty much says it all. Earlier this year they finished their debut EP “Weighing Winter,” which is available for free download! Thankfully these guys have a pretty busy show schedule so you can read their lips for yourself. After their line-up change in March 2009, Club Scout has been practicing and working hard to meld all of their different styles into one noisy, yet melodic, sound. Q&A with The Beanstalk Library

When District of Sound was provided with an exclusive listen to The Beanstalk Library’s newest tracks, we were grateful to hear music that could only come from a band that deeply appreciates music from eras past and has the ability to mold it into a modern and unique sound of its own. This local DC band’s premier album America at Night was a perfect mix of Americana and Folk rock and proved to be a hit with local media outlets and earned them a strong local following. All will not be disappointed after hearing what’s new from this band as each new track raises the musical bar and foreshadows their eminent success.
